Hard Scrabble

I used to play Scrabble with my mom.  We lived in different states so we played together online.  Over the years we played dozens of games against each other.  And it was hard.  I lost nearly every time.  Either my mom was pretty good at playing Scrabble or she cheated.  I never did figure out which one it was.

She got sick so we stopped playing for a couple of years.  When she felt better, I asked her if she’d like to play Scrabble again.  She said, “What do you mean, ‘again’?”  I tried to remind her that we used to play together online all the time.  But she had no recollection of it at all.  At first, I thought she was messing with me, so I pushed just a bit more.  Nope.  She had absolutely no memory of playing Scrabble with me.

The rest of her memory appeared fine.  In fact, as far as I could tell, the only thing she didn’t remember was playing Scrabble with me.  The cancer that ended up eventually killing her had erased every scrap of her memory of the two of us competing.

It’s like it never happened.  Except it did, and I hope I never forget.

By any account, President Trump has had a hardscrabble presidency.  For four years he was viciously attacked by the Left.  Both impeachments were based on fraudulent claims and done solely for political gain.  The media turned against him and constantly used misinformation, lies and the power of the First Amendment to discredit him.

Seemingly on his own, he fought an uphill battle to accomplish anything.  Yet, through hard work and struggle he accomplished a great number of things that benefitted all Americans.

Here are a few examples of what he has accomplished despite facing obstructions from the Left at nearly every turn.

  • He brought unemployment to a historic low.
  • He lowered unemployment for blacks to the lowest it has ever been.
  • He brokered multiple peace deals in the Middle East.
  • He was the first president in modern history to not get us in a new war.
  • He reformed the criminal justice system with the First Step Act.
  • The United States became the world’s largest producer of crude oil.
  • He brought back American manufacturing jobs.
  • He cut dozens of special interest tax breaks and closed loopholes for the wealthy.
  • He negotiated a new trade agreement to replace NAFTA.
  • He renegotiated the United States – Korea Free Trade Agreement.
  • He signed the Trafficking Victims Protection Act.
  • He deployed the military to assist in securing our southern border.
  • He improved relations with North Korea and defused a nuclear threat.
  • The remains of POW/MIA service members from the Korean War are being returned home.

President Trump has done literally hundreds of things that are good for all Americans.  Not just some Americans.  All Americans.  Yet, even in what appears to be the last days of his presidency, the Left continues their attacks.

Biden has said he’ll undo many of President’s accomplishments in his first 100 days even going so far as to compile a long list of things he’ll overturn on “day one”.  There’s been talk of attempting to continue the impeachment process after President Trump leaves office.  Democrats are even suggesting they’ll try to press criminal charges against him.

Big Tech is trying to make it like he never existed.  Remarkably, a sitting president has been blocked from communicating with the people he leads.  Twitter is working on a complete purge of every tweet he has ever made.  And his supporters are being banned as well.  Soon, even a mention of his name will likely get you cancelled and removed from history.

The cancer that has taken over the United States, and will eventually kill it, is trying to erase President Trump from memory.  The Left is trying to erase his hardscrabble presidency and make it seem like it never happened.

Except it did, and I hope we never forget.
