Ashli Babbitt vs. George Floyd

George Floyd and Ashli Babbitt are both dead.  That’s where the similarities end, but not the comparisons.

George Floyd was a career criminal.  Ashli Babbitt was a decorated veteran.  George was a man, Ashli a woman.  George was black, Ashli was white.

George Floyd was arrested for trying to use a counterfeit $20 to buy cigarettes.  Ashli was trying to protest what tens of millions of us believe was a stolen election.

George Floyd died after resisting arrest.  If you haven’t seen the video yet, you should.  Just make sure you watch the whole thing and not the last few seconds.  What you’ll see is George whacked out on what medical examiners have determined to be a fatal dose of Fentanyl.  Once he took those drugs, unless someone intervened, George was going to die.  It wasn’t a matter of if, it was a matter of when.  Had the officers been successful getting him to stay in the back of the SUV, he would have died a few minutes later, probably about the same amount of time that he was laying on the ground.

Ashli Babbitt died trying to crawl through a window on a door inside the Capitol.  If you haven’t seen the video, you should.  It’s not very long.  What you’ll see is Ashli, with both hands busy, trying to get into the building.  Then, a police officer shoots her at point blank range.  Once Ashli got into the building, she…well, there is no way to really know what she would have done.  There are plenty of videos of “violent insurrectionists” walking inside the building that day calmly taking selfies.  I’d say it’s more than likely that Ashli would have been doing the same had she gotten through the window.

The name of the officer who killed Ashli has never been released.  But, everyone knows Derek Chauvin.

Derek Chauvin was tried for killing George Floyd just a few minutes earlier than the Fentanyl overdose would have killed him.  In other words, he was the officer that thwarted George’s suicide attempt.  As I mentioned, George was already dying, he just didn’t know it yet. Worst case, Derek killed George about 5 minutes before he was going to die anyway.

The officer-who-must-not-be-named without a doubt caused Ashli’s death.  Yet, he won’t be charged at all.  There is no question that he fired his weapon at someone who was clearly no threat to himself.  But, according to the Justice Department, their investigation failed to provide evidence that the officer deprived Ashli of her rights.

The officer involved in George Floyd’s death has been tried in the court of public opinion for over a year.  Even if he had been proven innocent, his life would still be ruined.  The officer that killed Ashli Babbitt will never be tried at all.

George Floyd is being hailed as a martyr for a cause.  His accidental death has been the catalyst for hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of damage and dozens of deaths.  This drug-addled, multi-time-loser is considered a hero.  Ashli Babbitt is a footnote.  Go to Wikipedia and search for both of their names and see what you find.

The family of George Floyd got $27 million dollars after they settled a lawsuit with the City of Minneapolis for the wrongful death of George.  Let’s see…$27M divided by five minutes.  It seems that George’s life, a life he cared so little about that he voluntarily ingested a lethal amount of an illegal drug, is worth about $90,000 per second.

What did the family of Ashli Babbitt get? They got to bury her.

Today, the verdict came in for the trial, and Derek Chauvin was found guilty of murder. He will go to prison because a jury determined that he killed George Floyd just slightly faster than George could kill himself. Supporters of George can now say they have found justice.

So, that’s yet another difference between the two. There will never be justice for Ashli Babbitt.
