PonkaBlog

So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish

I started PonkaBlog back in early 2020.  It began with posts on Facebook I felt compelled to make after seeing so many people talking about topics of which they knew nothing.  Back then, the liberal/progressive cancel culture was in full swing.

People who held ridiculous liberal beliefs said pretty much anything they wanted without fear of reprisal. The other half of the country said nothing because we were concerned that we’d be called names and bullied by the Left. Of course back then the worst they’d do is call you a racist. Unlike today when you can get killed for what you believe in.

I decided I didn’t give a fuck what the idiots on the Left thought of me and I started speaking my mind, telling people what I thought and why I thought it.  I tried to use facts, logic and reason to inform people about what was really going on in the world.

Those posts eventually evolved into PonkaBlog.  Since then, I’ve published 561 articles and 208 podcasts.

This is my last one.

When I started blogging, I had hoped that I could talk some sense into the world.  And, when hardly any other conservatives were talking on social media, I strived to be the voice of reason.

I told everyone that having COVID wasn’t an automatic death sentence, that the statistics were being misinterpreted and that the “vackseens” were neither safe nor effective.

I was one of the first people to say that George Floyd was responsible for his own death and that BLM was a socialist organization.  I showed how “white cops hunting black men” was just a myth.

I pointed out the bias of the mainstream media and fought back against Russia collusion, “very fine people”, January 6th, and other anti-Trump hoaxes.

I spoke out against the “trans” culture and allowing men to compete against women in sports.

I argued that election fraud isn’t just possible, it’s likely.

I talked about some of the most important topics of the day.  When nearly everyone else was too afraid to speak, I spoke for them.

The problem is that hardly anyone listened.

Back in June of 2020, I had modest goals.  I thought it would be great if I could get 1,000 people reading my stuff on a regular basis.  That’s not a crazy goal.  There are about 260 million adults in the United States.  1,000 of them represent only about .0003% of the population.

Seems like that should be achievable, right?  I didn’t even come close.

Two of my articles got some traction but even then, I only had 500 or so people looking at each one.  At the height of my stats, I averaged 130 reads per article.  When I started my podcast, I had about 30 people listening to each episode.

I know that, by any measure, those are pitiful stats.  But I was proud of them.

Unfortunately, that was the high-water mark.  Now I’m lucky to get 20 people reading an article and 10 people downloading my podcast.  I’m sure some of those are duplicates.  So, figure 25 unique views. Tops. That’s not 25 per day. It’s 25 total.

For each article/episode, I do all the writing, editing, recording, research and artwork by myself.  It takes at least 4-5 hours to pull it all together.  I’ve easily spent 2,500 hours working on PonkaBlog.

But, with only 30 people hearing what I have to say (and I’m being generous here), I could literally call each of them up on the phone and just tell them what I think in less time than it takes me to complete an article.

I reached the point a long time ago when it would be silly to continue. So I’m not going to.

I may still post from time to time.  I may try again with a new format.  Or, I might just hang it up entirely.  I haven’t decided yet.

I’d like to thank the intrepid few who stuck with me though the last five and a half years.  I appreciate your comments, the “coffees” you bought me, and the occasional words of encouragement.

Finally, I’m going to leave you with links to some articles.  A few are some of my most read articles and some are others I’m especially proud of (in no particular order).

And now, ’til we meet again, adios, au revoir, auf wiedersehen.

Good night.
